Last week my best friend, Mary, came up to visit me and my Christmasy City!
We had a blast shopping and eating and sight-seeing. I haven't had much time to explore lately between school and work, so it was so fun to get out and enjoy it!
If you know us, you know that we are never short on laughter or fun... or drama. Like that one time we got kicked out of Washington D.C.... Or that time we were stuck in standstill traffic and I got out of our car and into a stranger's RV to use the bathroom. Seriously, it's always something. This trip was no different. We got up super early to catch the Rockette's (a 10am performance.. who does that?!). We left my apartment around 9:15 and at 9:45 we were STILL WAITING ON A CAB. You know those yellow things that are EVERYWHERE? Well, there were all the sudden none within a 10 block radius of my apartment. It was a disaster and we almost missed the show. Thanks to a sketchy town car driver that robbed us blind (20$ to go 20 blocks), we finally arrived to see those ladies kick up their long legs. It has always been a dream of both of ours to see them and we say we are going to make a trip to see them every year. This year we finally did, and it was so worth the 40 minutes we waited in the blistering cold for our cab. Mary loved the dancing Santa's (hilarious), we died laughing over the little elves, and I may or may not have shed a few tears during the nativity scene.. twas beautiful. The dancing teddy bears were a little weird-- but if you can handle those 10 minutes, you'll be good. I highly recommend it!
We may or may not have also gotten lost in Chinatown. I don't mean Canal Street. I mean like 'everything-is-in-Mandarin-and-we-are-basically-in-Shanghai' Chinatown. And apparently they don't 'believe in cabs there, either. It was an adventure to say the least.. but I digress.
We continued our touristy adventure (have no doubt that I was muttering rude things about all the crowds and fanny packs and cameras.. GET OUT OF MY WAY) to Rockefeller Center to get a look at the big tree. It was as beautiful as always. We actually got to see it when we came up last year to look for apartments, but it never gets old! We watched the skaters in the rink and decided we should save our skating for another day so we wouldn't make everyone jealous with our triple axles freeze to death. (Did I mention it was 20 degrees?)
We shopped and ate our way from LES to Soho to the West Village to the UWS and back to my little nest in the East Village (of course every step we took, Mary asked 'where ARE we???'). We had delicious omelettes at Silver Spurs, watched a bunch of crazies lined up around the corner to get in the Kardashian's new store, and even made a trip to Perry street to visit Carrie's stoop. I was never into Sex and the City, but her stoop is apparently a landmark! Oh, and Mary discovered a new brunch joint on Irving called 'Friend of a Farmer'... YUM!
We had planned to watch the AU-SC game at Bar 515 (the Auburn bar), but I'm a man and I don't do well watching the game with others. So, we watched it from my apartment.. INSANE! SEC CHAMPS! We rolled a tree in front of my building to show our spirit (see above).. my neighbors didn't quite understand.. we even saw a girl grab a piece and blow her nose. Hmm. Oh well!
Loved having my bestie here for a few days... nothing like a piece of home to push me through these 2 weeks of finals! Home in 4 DAYS!
PS: Have I mentioned that Christmas in NYC is all it's cracked up to be?!? IT IS! I can't believe I get to live here!
